Why is Beeswax Ideal for Cutting Boards?
Walrus Oil's Wood Wax contains a high concentration of beeswax and its the primary functional waterproofing ingredient. For thousands of years people have used beeswax as a time tested solution to condition and waterproof wood surfaces, mostly because it's completely natural and easy to work with. Beeswax on its own has the amazing ability to beautifully coat wood surfaces and remain stable as it repels water that hits the wood surface. Water will literally bead right off! For cutting boards that are heavily used and washed daily, we recommend reconditioning with our Wood Wax every month or two. This will ensure that the board maintains it's luster and remain waterproof.

Best Wood Wax Polish
When using a waxes on cutting boards, it's critical to choose something that is certified as "food-contact safe" by a third party organization. This will ensure all ingredients in the product are verifiably safe. Walrus Oil Wood Wax is NSF Certified as safe to be used on food-contact surfaces such as butcher block counters, cutting boards, wood spoons and more. It's a dense wax that will help add extra water protection and lift sheen without harmful chemicals, and you can feel comfortable knowing its trusted by thousands of woodworkers and chefs all over the world.

What is NSF Certified Wood Wax?
NSF states on their website that their "mission is to improve human and planet health. Businesses, regulators and consumers look to us to facilitate the development of public health standards and to provide services that help protect food, water, consumer products and the environment." While every ingredient we used in every product can be found on the FDA's website as "GRAS" (generally regarded as safe), Walrus Oil voluntarily went above and beyond and chose NSF to certify our Wood Wax, Cutting Board Oil, and Cast Iron Oil so we could offer our customers the highest standards in the industry for "food-contact safe" wood finishes.

How to Restore a Cutting Board with Wood Wax
When using Wood Wax alongside Cutting Board Oil, we recommend applying the oil before the wax. This will ensure the best results when using both products together. That being said, you can use our Wood Wax as a standalone product to revive and waterproof wood surfaces. If the wood feels rough from heavy use, you can lightly sand the surface before applying finishes, but it's not required. To apply Wood Wax, you can use your hand or a rag, work the wax into the entire wood surface, let it set for 15 minutes, then buff off any reside.
